DOCUMENT FOR JOINT ACTION BY THE WARRIER SAMAJAM
&
THE WORLD CONFEDERATION OF WARRIERS
1. Computer Literacy campaigns should be undertaken in all districts for boys, girls, and housewives with the target of achieving total computer literacy for all warriers, men and women, young and old, within a stipulated time-target. Unemployed warrier youth should be fully brought into the programme as learners and instructors. The Trivandrum Unit has already set the model, style and standard : now it needs to be extended to the entire Warrier and other Forward Hindu Minority Communities.
2. Warrier Samajam, with the help and cooperation of the WCW, should set up lodging homes, hostels and short-and-long-term paying guest houses for IT and Management professionals from the Warrier and other ambalavaasi communities at different hub centres in the country. Apart from being a boon to our youngsters, - men and women - providing them safe and secure accommodation in these days of high insecurity for professionals working at odd hours, the measure could also be a revenue-yielding proposition. The Samajam could also take steps for providing transportation for such professionals to and from their workplaces to the lodging/guest houses.
3. To fulfil our community's great religious and heritage obligations, the Samajam could conduct all-Kerala and national-level pilgrim and heritage tours by organizing its own Heritage Travel Services. Necessary linkages for this have to be established with the State and Central Tourism Departments, Corporations and Rail, Road and Air transport authorities and Travel and Tourism Agencies.
4. An expert team of scholars and historians should be set up under the joint aegis of the Samajam and WCW to do authentic research and bring out a comprehensive history of the Warrier Community. In collaboration with other Ambalavaasi communities under the banner of the Ambalavaasi Aikya Vedi, a similar task should be undertaken for preparing and publishing the authentic history of all such communities. Such an effort, it may be pointed out, would contribute to the enrichment of the historical legacy of Kerala.
5. Chairs should be set up in various universities of Kerala to honour and perpetuate the memory of the great men and women of our community who have made great contributions in diverse fields in different parts of India and abroad. Similar Chairs and Annual Memorial Speeches should be arranged for eminent past social, cultural, literary and intellectual leaders of all ambalavaasi communities of Kerala.
6. Efforts should be made to collect rare books, granthas and other rare items, artefacts, paintings, sculptures, manuscripts and publications from age-old warriams and preserve them in a special museum using modern scientific techniques. Steps should be taken to preserve and protect ageold warriams and related temples and monuments.
7. There are many scholarly men and women from our community and other ambalavaasi communities who are engaged in spiritual educational activities. Their services could be coordinated and edited lectures, books and CDs brought out and sold under the auspices of the Samajam/Ambalavaasi Aikya Vedi. A conference of such persons may be called at the State level to identify ways in which their services could be fully utilized for the cultural and spiritual advancement of all ambalavaasis.
8. An all-India Conference of ambalavaasi community organizations may be convened under the joint auspices of the Warrier Samajam, the WCW and the Ambalavaasi Aikya Vedi to discuss common problems threadbare and develop an Agenda for Action and strategies for achieving the objectives.
9.The indepth study of Sanskrit, Malayalam, the scriptures and the arts, music and dances of Kerala may be encouraged by the Samajam by starting study centres at different places in India and abroad in a coordinated venture with the WCW. There is a felt need for this as many warrier children and youth do not know how to speak and write in Malayalam and have practically no knowledge about our great literary, religious and cultural heritage. Certificate and Diploma courses may be conducted to encourage students to take up these studies and get qualified as teachers and scholarly presenters and writers.
10.A network of “Warriers’ Coaching Centres” should be started in all major cities, state capitals and industrial townships to prepare students for entrance examinations for various professional courses, Banking, Insurance, Business Management, Tourism & Hospitality Management, Civil Services, Hospital Management, etc. Appropriate linkages may be established with educational institutions for efficient student enrolment in these centres. Talented teachers, preferably from the Warrier and other Forward Hindu Minority Communities may be appointed as faculty and resource persons at these centres.
11. A nationwide network of “Warriers’ Polyclinics” and Ayurvedic Massage Centres and Vaidyasalas and Medical Stores may be started with the help and support of major Ayurvedic institutions run by Warrier families and Forward Hindu minority communities.
12. Heritage and Culture Study and Promotion Centres may be started under the auspices of Warriers’ organizations in all major tourism centres in the country linking them with the Universities and Tourism, Archives and Archaeological Departments and wellknown heritage tourism pockets. Trained guides and managers belonging to the Warrier & other Forward Hindu Minority communities may be preferred for posting at these centres.
13. Alcoholism, drug addiction, related criminal activities, depression, suicides and other psychological problems are on the increase in Kerala and other states of India. There is a felt need for starting large numbers of well-run and well-equipped Counselling Centres with hotline services to help the Government and non-government hospitals and other agencies in their efforts to contain, control and correct these problems. Warriers’ Counselling and De-addiction centres could be established towards this end.
14. Centres for Training Counsellors and provide expertise in de-addiction and suicide-prevention may be started to provide required personnel for the institutions mentioned in item 13. Needless to say, members of Warrier and other Forward Hindu Minority Communities should be preferred for selection on condition that those selected have the required aptitude and flair for social service.
15. With the crackup of the protective Joint Family System and the so-called land reforms in Kerala, most of the Forward Hindu minority communities including warriers are in distress. The compulsions of the nuclear family system currently in vogue have rendered the old and the disabled from among these families lonely and unsupported. There is need for starting homes for the aged couples, widows (young and old) and singles.
It is suggested that community living centres to care for these categories be started with provision for food, medical facilities, security and maintenance and cleaning services.
16. Every unit of the Warrier Samajam and the WCW should have a trained Social Health and Family Counsellor entrusted with the responsibility of maintaining regular contact with the families and helping them sort out problems in a humane and professional manner.
